Bamboo Slat Ceiling

Can You Install Bamboo Slats On Your Ceiling?

October 31, 2013

When you are decorating, it’s common to focus your attention on the surfaces that are easiest to access, typically walls and floors. But some of the most dramatic and interesting rooms are decorated from the top down, starting with the ceiling. Bamboo slats are a great option for ceilings.

Installing Bamboo Slats

We offer lightweight bamboo slats that can be nailed, screwed, bolted or glued to the ceiling in patterns that bring tropical style to a room. Wondering if you have the tools on hand for this kind of DIY project? All you need is a hammer, electric drill, tape measure, drill bit, finishing nails, liquid nail, a caulking gun and a saw. Better yet, you only need some of these items, depending on the method you use to attach the bamboo slats to the ceiling.

It’s best to start out by measuring the installation area to give you an accurate picture on how many slats you will need. Depending on how you want to arrange them will determine how many custom cuts you may need. You can also design a simple pattern, such as concentric circles starting from the outside, and cut the bamboo slats to fit your pattern.

A product called Liquid Nails is commonly used to adhere bamboo slats to the ceiling, as it dries clear. We recommend this as the easiest way to install the slats. Liquid Nails can be applied to the back of the slat and placed against your ceiling. You can also drive a finishing nail in the center of the slat for extra support.

Before installing your bamboo slats, you can also stain the product to match the style or color-scheme in the room. Another idea is to paint over the slats once they are installed so that all you see is the texture of the application.

amaZulu Inc offers bamboo slats products that can be used for a variety of applications including cabinetry trim, bar fronts, wainscoting, and of course, ceilings. Call us today at 877-243-5309 to learn more about our products.
